A low carbon ground floor & roof extension to an Edwardian home.

Retrofitting and extending an end of terrace house using reclaimed and natural materials. Creating an open plan living space, kitchen and rear extension. Adding a bedroom in the roof space with en-suite bathroom and home office, dressed in Victorian club tiles, Tudor Red and Staffordshire Blue bricks.

Reclaimed facing materials

We used reclaimed club tiles for the roof dormer, taking inspiration from the decorative features of the nearby Edwardian homes. Using Tudor Red and Staffordshire Blue engineering bricks to create a unique textured ground floor extension, including a pop out window box looking from the kitchen and a large glass pivot door together.

The underside of a building's floor framed with wooden studs and an exposed brick wall behind. A red vertical support beam runs through the center. An electrical outlet with a plugged-in extension cord is on the right side near the floor.
Modern black and red wooden cabinet with sliding doors and textured red accents on the corners and side panels, standing against a plain white background.

Stripping the house back to its structure

Before upgrading the home's thermal performance - we first stripped it back to its brickwork and timber frame.

We used a range of natural insulation products including sheepswool and recycled wood fibre panels. New parts were built using timber frame insulated panels.

Low energy heating using Air Source Heat Pump

We integrated an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) into the design. Housed in an acoustic enclosure to ensure that the unit’s noise didn’t disturb the home’s occupants and neighbours.
