Burton Stone Lane is a residential adaptation of a Victorian villa in the Clifton Conservation area of York. Our client and his young family needed a new focal point for their home which linked the house to the garden.
The house is remodeled with a folded brick extension reorienting and reconnecting the existing building to the garden with a number of different openings: a sliding glass corner, a pop-out window and window seat, and a slot window and rooflight which allow light deep into the plan.
The extension includes an oak kitchen, small bathroom, dining area and an informal living space, each with views to the garden.
The new building is formed from a steelwork frame with timber infill walls, a copper roof and a facade of handmade bricks. Window reveals and linings are also made from copper which ages to blend with the slate roofs of the adjoining houses.
