Weymouth College Gallery

Weymouth

2023

An art gallery built from reclaimed and recycled materials for Weymouth College. Working with the faculty head, teachers, governors, stakeholders and students we developed a strategy to expand the art space offering at Weymouth College.

After an initial round of site analysis, options and scenario testing we created a design for a low carbon community gallery space made from recycled and reused construction materials. The project is built by and for the college and local people. 80% of the building material itself will come from reuse, such as waste stone from the nearby Isle of Portland (with structural timber, fixings and key weather-proofing materials being new).

We worked alongside artist Jodie House from Houseworks CIC to designed the outer shell of the gallery. The not-for-profit have developed a series of collage work with young people from the Littlemoor area to create pieces responding to the shapes, shadows and silhouettes of Weymouth which are then translated onto the building’s facade.
